Purpose of Study:
Lexden Primary School’s Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) curriculum enables pupils to develop the knowledge, skills, and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. It intends to develop the whole child through carefully planned and resourced lessons that provide children with the tools that they need to protect and enhance their wellbeing. It helps children and young people to stay healthy and safe, while preparing them to make the most of life and work. Lexden Primary School’s PSHE education also helps pupils to achieve their academic potential.
Who is a Lexden Citizen?
During key stages 1 and 2, our PSHE curriculum offers both explicit and implicit learning opportunities and experiences which reflect pupils’ increasing independence and physical and social awareness, as they move through the primary phase. It builds on the skills that pupils started to acquire during the Early Years Foundation stage (EYFS) to develop effective relationships, assume greater personal responsibility and manage personal safety, including online. PSHE education helps pupils to manage the physical and emotional changes at puberty, introduces them to a wider world and enables them to make an active contribution to their communities.

- A spiral curriculum design to develop knowledge, skills, and attributes within each of the six core themes, where prior learning is revisited, reinforced, and extended year on year.
- A PSHE education that addresses both pupils’ prior experiences and preparation for their future.
- Hands on and engaging learning opportunities that link with topics and other areas of the curriculum.
- In depth units that build on skills throughout the pupil’s time within the school with clear progression.
- Exciting and engaging tasks, high expectations, a variety of different areas are studied, and a range of resources and equipment are used.
- The school’s values of community, courage, curiosity, and commitment are embedded throughout the PSHE core themes and various unit.
